IVT Expo Virtual Live, September 21-22, 2021

LUMINEQ will give a speech at IVT Expo Virtual ‘Live’ on September 21-22, 2021. IVT Expo Virtual ‘Live’ provides a perfect platform for industrial vehicle manufacturers to engage with speakers and suppliers who will present the next generation of research and technology, featuring streams on autonomous industrial vehicle technology; electric and hybrid industrial vehicle technology; and cab design, controls, ergonomics and HMI.

Topic: Pros and cons of different head-up display technologies for industrial vehicles

Head-up display shows critical information in front of the driver/operator and allows them to focus on the road and operation. There are different display technologies for head-up displays, such as projected HUD, TOLED, miniLED and electroluminescent displays. Each technology has its advantages and disadvantages.

This presentation will compare four head-up display solutions in the following areas: construction, display installation and integration, lamination readiness, focal point, transmission, operating temperature, resistance to shock and vibration, resistance to humidity and solar load, optical uniformity, maturity, color, product lifetime and production life.

By laminating transparent displays in glass, industrial vehicle OEMs are empowered to utilize all the windshields and windows, showing important information and providing functions controlled by touching the glass. The technology enables manufacturers to build safer vehicles and machines that improve ergonomics and user experience for drivers, operators and passengers.

The traditional projector-based head-up solution that is adopted by cars requires extra space and a small angle between the windshield and the projector, which makes it impossible to use in an industrial machine with very limited space and a steep windshield. However, by laminating LUMINEQ transparent display in the windshield, important information can be shown directly on the windshield in front of the operator. The images are viewable from all angles both inside and outside the vehicles. It works perfectly for vertical windshields.

Customer Case: Valtra Tractor

This simple but high-tech-powered in-glass display solution has been adopted by our customer Valtra, who unveiled the world's first tractor with a windscreen display at Agritechnica exhibition in 2017.

“Electronic inputs activate symbols in the membrane. This technique is extremely reliable in even the most demanding conditions,” explains Petri Hannukainen, PhD and Research and Advanced Engineering Team Lead from Valtra

At the 2019 Agritechnica, Valtra showcased the final design of their heads up display (HUD) SmartGlass. After two years' intensive testing and improvements, Valtra SmarGlass wasmade available as an option via the Unlimited studio.

It was announced that after Agritechnica, Valtra would release 20 pilot units to selected customers and that serial production would be planned.
